'mature student' ugh

so i didnt go to uni when i was 18 right so now im 26 and im having my yearly crisis of 'should i go to uni next year' (2 years ago i got into uni to do a marketing degree and then had another crisis and decided i dont even wanna do marketing wtf)
so yea basically I THINK i want to do jewellery making and silversmithing but the problem is i havent done any art past gcse 10 years ago and my further education is a diploma in animal management lol so basically i am not qualified AT ALL
so now i have to spend the next year going hard at doing all the classes and small courses and online learning and practising i can get my hands on so i might actually get into uni
i am exhausted just thinking about it
and im gonna be a 'mature student' which makes me feel old and sad lol

did u go to uni??
what did u study

26 is not a mature student imo, the people i study with range from 18 to 70ish and I would say those who are 40-50+ are mature, the rest are more.. yeah, same age as the new people.

i am on my 6th year at uni, i have studied english, linguistics, theoretical linguistics and now northern sami

being a mature student isn't something anybody thinks about if you aren't over 30 i would say, especially if u don't look old for your age. i think that, if you feel like doing it, but the pre-work sucks (so, spending the next year with classes and small courses), i think you should try and have something on the side that makes you keep going. may it be a hobby you love or something else, so you don't have a year of just sucky things. i wrote the swedish equivalent of the SATS 4 times before getting into a program i wanted, and it would have sucked to study for that if i didn't study somtehing i enjoyed while doing so as well

i have studied for 4,5 years at uni and have 1,5 years left of studies of my current program  (law)
have studied linguistics, french and political science before (courses)

in uk unis anything over 21 at the start of uni is a mature student   I feel like most of the younger students would probs look older than me though tbf apart from some wrinkles lmao

wooow thats a long time! do you get it all funded??

same here, people in my uni that im in the same year as ranged between being 18 to 50 when we started
the most common was ofc early twenties, but there were more than i expected who were 26+ and like at least 3 were 50+

interesting, it doesn't really matter regardless.
i don't live in a country which values big socioeconomic differences, so actually studying is free, although you clearly need money to live aside from that, but student loans so it's fine i guess.
well, i guess it is a long time, but i have a master's degree now and am currently only studying to see if any phd programs or relevant jobs come my way

i think it depends a lot on the program but yeah i agree

the law program had a lot of people fresh from high school which stood out (and was annoying). when i studied linguistics, political science and french the age was more varied

18 isn't common here, because high school is until the year you turn 19, so if you are 18 you likely turn 19 during the first few months

yeahh I think the only thing for me will be the outside of uni sort of student culture like i dont think i could handle going out drinking with people who are way younger and only just felt freedom and go too crazy hahaah
I do think im gonna really love jewellery making so im hoping that its more fun than work but yea thats a good point i'll defo have to make sure i balance it well
oooo  that sounds like alot of work! are the other courses like college??

one degree as you can "only" get a bachelor's degree and if you want a master's degree you have to fund it, or is master the "one degree"?

26 isn't a mature student at all, most of the people were 40+ in my classes. Plus nobody will ever know because nobody asks age or really even talks much. Online learning is a good way to get back into it

I got a worthless degree in health and wellness that i'll never use

but yes ive heard from a friend of mine, who went to study in england when she was i think 25 or 26?? that she got made fun of by her uni roommates for her age
like not in a haha friendly way but to the point where she dropped out i think

not saying that to scare u off but definitely not the same vibe as norwegian uni no
nonetheless i think if u want to go to uni u should

im 24 and on my 4th year now, i have a bachelors degree in social anthropology, ive studied gender studies and now im doing a bachelor in culture and communication with media science
