quick question for drivers but

how  do you manage anxiety around driving. i genuinely am terrified of driving and i have to drive in like two hours after two-three weeks of not driving at all (i barely drive in general but yeah)... its been like 2 years since ive got my drivers license and i still make a lot of pretty bad mistakes which have caused me to almost crash with my mother by my side a few times n i cant get over this . i even have told myself to only use public transport because of how bad my anxiety is, although i will have to pay for driving lessons in a few months so i can retry driving but yeah ... for now i do need to drive more and practise but i still only drive the same route and i keep making real bad mistakes as ive said before

like i think its pretty common to have anxiety around driving etc. but it gets so bad i have panic attacks at night and keep thinking about all the steps i have to take in order to drive (like, how to change gears, how to even start the car...)- i may need to add i am autistic and as far as ive been told, that kinda also has relation to my "tunnel vision" and the need i have of having clear instructions on what to do when driving (and i guess thats also why i refuse to take another route)

I normally listen to music when I'm driving, so I can relax and have a good drive.

I am the best driver ever so I dont get anxious

No idk I think it's bcus I drive pretty much every day bcus of work so Ive just gotten so confident over the years I dont have to think abt the rules anymore it's just kinda like walking like I dont think abt putting the left foot in front of the other. I dont have great tips other than drive more nd get off ur comfort road to show it'll be ok

Someone gave u a license so I assume u cant be a completely lost cause xD
What r the mistakes u make?

- in my country we have roundabouts, and even though i know i have to check if cars are not coming up towards me, i enter recklessly. last time i drove i almost made someone crash with me, she even had to honk at me (which makes me more nervous but of course i do understand why she would honk at me).
- i also have trouble changing gears sometimes, and i also don't know how to deal with velocity because i have like told myself at what speed i must go on every part of the route i have to go where i need to go, so if there's any incident/traffic/problem in the middle of the road, i am unable to respond quick (although so far ive been able to not have an accident because my mom always comes with me when im driving)
- i also do not know how to park, so i have to park badly somewhere in a lonely street so my mom can take the car and either keep driving (because i dont know how to fully get to the place i need to go by driving without scaring myself because of traffic at some point of the route) or park herself...
these are my biggest mistakes, which i think should be enough for me to have my drivers license removed tbh but yeah...

ill also add, i was 3 mistakes away of failling my driving exam (7 mistakes out of 10). my teacher did also tell me a few times when he was teaching me that i was really reckless sometimes, and i made him fear for his safety a few times... my dad told me the same, after i stopped like 6-7 times in a row in the same roundabout with lots of cars coming in at medium-high speed :-s

Mby we must start at the basics
Lesson one will be, how to stop the car if there's smthing blocking traffic

I've gotten so used to driving every day, that I don't really get nervous about it anymore. Sure I get nervous in certain situations, but generally from driving.

When I first started driving more regularly, I preferred driving alone - Because at least then I'd be the only one dealing with my bad driving, and through that I've become way more secure.

I can't really suggest anything else for a here-and-now cure, it's just getting more experience..

Driving teachers are scary as hell
I only just passed the theory exam (I was a t the max amount of mistakes possible while still passing) and uuh definitely always got very criticized by my teacher as well - But it'll get better.

I've always been told, and I guess also lived with, the saying that you only just start learning how to drive and navigate traffic when you have gotten your license.
