i just want to know how im supposed to introduce something to my doctor without seeming insane, these arent things you can prove easily, and i feel like a lot of doctors dont take their patients seriously

i just want tips on how to introduce this to my doctor without seeming insane, maybe someone here has had other diagnoses that they suspected they had who went to bring that specific diagnose up with their doctor or something who have advice?

can you just go up to your doctor and be like hi i think i have narcolepsy because of these symptoms, i just feel like that would potentially ruin all the possiblities of ever being taken seriously

well, just describe all the symptoms and how they affect you. like @Felicity  said. it must affect you in some way, no ? tiredness, sleep attacks, etc.

pretend you never heard of narcolepsy, what would you do ?

yea i would say maybe don't take the risk of saying you suspect it's narcolepsy. some doctors would probably be fine with that but some doctors rly hate patients who think they know anything lol. so it might be best to play dumb. just talk about the problems you're having and let them make their own conclusions

yeah thats what i think, i guess i should see the personality of the doctor and maybe ask for some understanding, like the goal isnt asking them to give a diagnose, but rather be believed and taken seriously enough for them to send me to a specialist

god why does it have to be so hard to prove to others what is going on inside your head

im having a hard time wording this but like

i feel like a thing making this much harder is that the thing that made me suspect it was narcolepsy and not vitamin deficiency was because of the relations between sleep problems (narcolepsy) and my weird strokes i get weirdly more and more frequently as time passes (cataplexy), but its parallels that you cant really draw unless you in theory knew what both of those diagnoses are, so i cant prove i have narcolepsy without using the word narcolepsy or cataplexy without seeming very suspicious, i think the doctor would understand where i was going with it

(i cant bring up my sleep issues and my weird brain seizures in one session because they arent related, and i wouldntve known they were related if i hadnt looked it up, curse my curiousity

goddamn why does this have to be so haaard, like i very obviously have practically all of the symptoms i just cant prove it

just take my spinal fluid and give me the diagnose so i can put it in my tumblr bio and brandish how quirky i am

i ruined my possiblities of ever being taken seriously because i know what it is, but the paradox here is that if i didnt know what it was i probably wouldnt ever think to get it checked

imagine it from a doctor's point of view. and someone comes & tells you they have an illness they read somewhere online. i'm not saying you don't have it i just think it would look suspicious. and what if it was another sleep illness that's not narcolepsy ? that's why it's important to explain the details bc docotrs know other things that would confirm the diagnosis @Pavlov
