im wondering if I should learn French instead of learning russian LOLĀ
Idk I'm trying to learn many languages at once but it's challengingĀ
which language seems to be the easiest?Ā
well i'm going to give you my standard linguist answer first:Ā
the difficulty of foreign languages are completely dependant on what language is your native language, and in general the linguistic background you have prior to learning the language. obviously, a romance language talker such as a native Italian speaker would find a different romance language like e.g. Portuguese easier than a native Slavic speaker, e.g. a Russian native. English provides some help in both Germanic and Romance languages as the grammar is predominantly Germanic, and the simple vocabulary is Germanic (as English is Germanic) while the general vocabulary of English is about 50% Romance. A speaker of Norwegian will find Dutch easier than a speaker of Mandarin.Ā

For me, a native speaker of Norwegian, a second language speaker of English, and the weird relationship I have to Finnish.. if I'm not counting other Scandinavian languages (Danish and Swedish), and also excluding Faroese because it is so tightly connected to Norwegian.. Hm.. I've put more effort into learning French than any other language, Finnish is somewhat intuitive as I'm very familiar with it due to Finnish family.. but I will nevertheless claim that German seems to be the easiest. Czech is by far the most challenging one I've genuinely tried to learn. Greek was very so-so.Ā
