If you are pale asf like me, ivory is usually a good match
i feel like i have normal white person skin but thats not a thing
i also read about some foundation(s) that are supposed to blend into your skin tone even though it wasn't the exact shade for your skin but idk if they actually work or not. like i think the fenty beauty foundations  were advertised  to have that feature but idk.

all i could find is clinique having a 14 color sample pack you can get free if you order from their website. but its only for one of their foundations and not the one i had in mind

i refuse to buy new makeup because it's difficult. problem solved

edit. i'm sorry if this was rude i was trying to make a joke about my (lack of) abilities to sort out problems. i have no idea how to make sure the shade matches, can it even be possible without actually testing the product? i hope you come up with a satisfactory solution!!!!!

reviews and swatches
if you have a (popular) foundation that matches your skintone look for swatches that compare those shades. also it's useful to figure out your shade in mac foundations since that's probably the most common metric people use for comparison
