theres like a very high percentage of people on vp who have bpd and someone should really look into what the correlation is about
I think it can just b that mental illness is more prevalent on the internet in general and especially vp, so the percentage of ppl w bpd + most other illnesses will b higher anyways. Why its like that tho idk, probably just cus mentally ill ppl struggle more w functioning socially so they go on the internet lol

i'm sure that's true for some people but in that case we should be looking into why its a common self diagnosis on vp
I've been on tumblr since 12 y/o and im in mid twenties now, during that time... A lot of teens and almost young adults diagnosed themselves with bpd yet they claim they dont go to doctor or psychologist.

Bpd have too much in common like being a normal teenager people dont get this diagnosis before they're mature and preferably 25+. Getting this diagnosis early on is very rare, and personality disorders are rare in general so i never really trust teens on tumblr or other sites are diagnosed with this if they're younger than 25.
Exactly.
I've had BPD for multiple years, but it's only after I turned eighteen that the psychiatrists and doctors actually gave me the diagnosis. I wish I could've gotten it earlier on, and gotten help back then, but I'm thankful that I finally have the diagnosis now,  it makes me feel more secure? I guess? Like I can point to bpd, when I don't understand myself.
Good thing proffesionals used time before it's all set, altough hope you still worked on your issues before that. Personality disorder are constant & life long and preferably should not get misdiagnosed which is why it's good to wait until one is mature enough to be sure. Though any issues should get help even without diagnosis.

i think it's not just vp that has many people with bpd, every fb peer support group i'm in also has a lot of people with bpd and i know multiple irl... it seems like a pretty common diagnosis nowadays. i think psychiatrists like to slap it on whoever is "difficult" and doesn't accept being treated poorly, not getting the treatment they need, etc... lol. it's pretty much only women though bc no one cares if men misbehave

Was first diagnosed at 18 and I'm soon 24

pretty much, i've heard that a lot of professionals wont even work with someone with bpd because it's got such an insanely bad rep

BPD is super overdiagnosed (in Finland) at least at the moment among young people.
i searched help for ptsd symptoms and they said they want to put me through bpd testing whatever that means... super weird.

i forgot to quote claire but this is a reply to what she was saying

Its very easy (in the US at least) to label someone with bpd as “treatment resistant” and just give up on them so yeah probably.

esp if one is exposed systematic for abuse/trauma one is bad at managing emotions in healthy way can get misdiagnosis for bpd. I think i read even a reasearch/study on how c-ptsd patients get bpd diagnosis, and later on find out it was trauma responses.

First therapist when i were like 16-17 thought i had bpd when i just got out of abusive household when it was actually  normal responses to being systematically abused for years by a parent. Glad they used time to get to know me & everything and it's clearly now i dont have bpd at all unlike 7-8 years ago.

i have heard mood swings can also be accidentally diagnosed as bpd while it’s actually bipolar disorder

emotional turbulence tbh
but yeah i’ve seen clips n read abt people having been misdiagnosed
i’m bipolar myself so i know the emotional turbulence is quite identical, while other symptoms are not alike in the slightest

Mood swings do correlate to BPD though.
From my understanding, Bipolar mood swings take place over a longer time, whereas borderline is more from one minute/hour to the other.

Yeah but I mean, isn't one of the criteria for bipolar that the mood periods have to last for like a week+ or something, while w borderline its more like, very rapid mood change n usually not over a couple days max
