Poll: War! What is it good for
Vague attempt

am starting w law bc that's first on the powerpoint

there's three kinds of law in the international community
first there is the international human rights law, which are like non negotiable rights which everyone has at all times

then there is the international humanitarian law, which is the law in case of an armed conflict (though the ihrl does not fall away) and it uhhh makes sure everyone has their rights wether they're combatants or non combatants or civilians, tho I think these mainly apply to the combatants and non combatants ? These laws are set in like the geneva conventions and stuff

then there is international criminal law which makes sure people will be prosecuted for shit they did in time of an armed conflict, if it is connected to the war at least .. this is like the ICC statute and the ICTY and ICTR

now I gotta see if that is actually correct ....

update it is correct, IHL is indeed mainly for non combatants
the ihl ensures that there is "fair warfare"???? ok then

an international armed conflict is a war between two or more states
an internal armed conflict is a war within one state

cold war... idk what we have to know about the cold war. I think we have to know like proxy wars? How the superpowers were fighting in other countries trying to benefit from it... so like the korea war and the vietnam war, where they supported their side with supplies and soldiers etc

We have to know "new wars", I think they mean the war against terrorism ? like we talked about abu ghraib so I think we have to know what happened there yes. so in abu ghraib the americans took over and like tortured the prisoners but the soldiers didn't really know that what they were donig was wrong? like they took pictures with it, smiling and stuff so they did not realise it .. they also just arrested anyone at the wrong place at the wrong time, people who were not supposed to be there.

and we have to know "trends" idk trends I'll have to look it up

I found the trends of war!
trends are the changing nature of war
so it's like .. private armies are joining wars, there are more civilian casualties bc these days it's not just on a battlefield outside the city where people shoot each other
there are more child soldiers too
more groups are joining
and there are like criminal groups who are just trying to gain from the war lol

After the second world war there were a bunch of wars, tho most of them were internal ones .. this is bc of decolonisation and battles for indepence, but then they had to form a government and stuff and yeah conflicts ....

Then there is also the idealist vs realist theory or whatever it is
realists are like states want security for themselves and power and wealth so they are politically conflictual

and idealists are like we should have an international community that functions under one system and the politics are all working together bc they have pure motives and humans are good uwu
