Might sound obvious but I imagine that posture while carrying those books around might play a part too. No harm in trying some back/leg strengthening exercises.

yeah in general i have pain in my neck/left shoulder because i've grown to be slightly crocked, so that does probably play a part. i do work out though, muscle training, as regular as possible, so there's not much more i can do there! thanks anyways

you should start doing back and core exercise each night to strengthen your back, you need a stronger foundation or you can seriously harm your back down the line
