I try to find necklaces that work with the necklines of my clothes and aren't too long (I hate it when they clonk around desks) and usually I stay clear from rings because I usually manage to nick them or get them dirty
for earrings, I like those that have a bit of dangle to them or just small 3cm diameter creoles because they help make my neck look a bit longer (which I found out by comparing pictures of me in different earrings - it's the same way I found out both silver and gold look good on me, but gold usually looks better)
