It rly just impact whatever ppl would use electricity for for that one hour and then don't. Its mostly symbolic or to draw attention to the environment and such. Different themes each year. It is sorta up to you how much or what you do. They have suggestions on their site. Very lavterskel. 

I've sorta just come to like it bc I have good memories from doing it as a kid and u get to sit in the dark w ur canceles for an hour
