Yeah true, I think ppl can develop symptoms from it (not enough for any actual diagnosis tho), and also develop "false" symptoms if that makes sense. Like they are experiencing something normal, but they are being taught that its "wrong" (spechul), or they exaggerate it to an extent where they think they have a disorder

Have you been on es? These are kids playing pretend. In cases of mental illness, we shouldn't indulge in people's delusions. In cases of religious beliefs or whatever I don't care, you can believe whatever you want but I don't owe your beliefs respect, if I think your religious belief is stupid, I'm gonna continue thinking that, your belief should be strong enough to handle people thinking it's ridiculous.

full on breaking delusions is dangerous as fuck. it can literally cause the delusion to get worse,, full blown psychotic episodes, self harm/panic attacks/etc. it should only ever be done by professionals (or trusted ppl trained to do it like family members/spouses) when determined to be 100% necessary & its very rarely needed as it causes more harm/impedes progress the overwhelming majority of the time.

if u mean not reinforcing delusions then ok i get what u mean, but that varies wildly w/ each case & nonhuman delusions are actually a harmless coping mechanism. even if that wasnt the case - & hell there may be cases where thats true  - its always going to be way way more harmful & dangerous to straight up break someones delusion w/o knowing what ur doing & it being necessary.
im not just pulling this stuff out of my ass to try & sound superior or sth, ive had years of experience w/ this stuff, im going by what multiple professionals have told myself & others,, a LOT of personal research & so many bad experiences with how delusions are treated . dont get me wrong if u have experiences of ur own or sth thats totally valid, im absolutely not claiming otherwise,, im honestly just trying to explain that the line of thinking of just telling someone their delusion isnt true randomly causes so much harm & pain


& its obvs fine to think someones religious beliefs are stupid, i think plenty are, but what im saying is u dont have to be rude/disrespectful abt it as long as it doesnt harm anyone
i feel like its just the bare minimum of basic respect to someone to refer to them as they want to be based on their beliefs even if u dont believe it or even think its stupid
& it feels particularly shitty as well if theyre beliefs of ppls whove been denied their right to practise or even killed for it historically. i just feel it costs zero effort to be kind & theres no reason to shit on someone for holding a (harmless) belief u dont
