it's funny cuz the lock is actually fully functional, but the whole house has shifted over time which means you have to lift the whole door up by the knob to make the lock click into place and lift it up again to unlock, and then body slam the door to try push it out of the too narrow frame. which has resulted in the door knob being broken by sheer force. like the actual solid piece of metal inside, just snapped. twice. now we have no more door knobs to replace it with

Bruh the only time i lock the door is if there's ppl here who dont know our general house rules. Closed door means occupied, dont you dare close the door on your way out. ✋
this makes sense, we always close the door to the bathroom on our way out tho here 🤡

i relate to the fucked up angles fucked up locks, not bc of shifting but bc of a landlord with the "must pain over everything white" disease. even painted the inside of the curtain tracks. i had to chip away the paint with a knife so i could slide in those little knobs in the so i could hang curtains properly

all the bathroom doors have hook locks bc its just impossible to get the doors to close all the way so u can use the actual lock and the bedroom and livingroom doors need to be body slammed so hard while simultaneously twisting the lock for it to fit in which is nearly impossible. not to mention the firehazard of not actually being able to sleep with the doors closed

my apartment is split into two units so yeah I always lock the doors. for some reason it makes me more paranoid even though my neighbor is chill.
back when i lived with my parents though, we never locked the doors in our apartment. we were too lazy to bring keys with us most of the time lmao

OKAY SO same, you need a tag to even enter the apartment building but so why I have this thought is bc when I was like 5 my mom told me two stories. One from the paper of a woman who had left her apartment unlocked to quickly go to the laundry but some man got into her apartment meanwhile and hid under her bed. She was lucky and discovered him without him noticing so she called the cops and they arrested him BUT DAMN SHE WAS ALONE AND THAT STORY NEVER LEFT MEEEEEEEEEEEE. The other was of her and her friends being like 10 at her friends place. They were like 5 girls and didn't lock the door. THEN DEADASS A DIRTY ASS MAN CAME IN, the girls froze in fear so he just told them to lock the door next time or people like him will get in and he left. They called the cops but he was long gone so like I NEED TO LOCK DOORS 😂😭🥶
yea those stories stick 😭 a few years back i hadnt gotten into the habit of automatically locking all doors yet (and lived in not an apartment building) but i immediately did once i heard a rattlinmg in the hallway the ONE time i had actually locked it, and it was someone trying to slowly open the front door. a few days later some guy came around "asking aroud for someone in the nrighbourhood" which was the weirdest and worst job ive ever seen of someone trying to fish for information about the building i was living in. guy clearly was trying to gauge whether he could break in or not. later in the evening another house further up the street was broken into and it clicked lmao

the paint😭 so stupid, its not hard to just paint like a sane person
reminds me of when i moved into my great grandmothers sewing room for a while and both the windows had been painted shut from each side, as well as the ventilation thing, like how the fuck did you even breathe
