Lmao so is Israel and Armenia as well?

It's I THINK because of like not your geographical location but something with the EBU, which they are a part of.
They're not, they're associated members, they just really like Eurovision apparently

But sure, receiving 93% of the televote is likely caused by sympathy and solidarity, we can all agree on that. However, claiming that every single vote was exclusively due to this is beyond ignorant. Ukraine is consistently in the top 10  and generally well liked in the public. Last year they came 2nd in the televote with a song that also contained traditional music styles combined with more modern aspects (one of the band members of Go_A is also a member of Kalush (and Kalush orchestra so it adds up)).
Let's say Ukraine would've gotten 43% of the televote in a normal year, they would've gotten roughly 200 points from the televote which would have placed them 5th.
However, prior to the invasion, Ukraine was in the top 10 of the odds consistently, even with the drama regarding who should represent them because the actual winner of Vidbir 2022 had illegally entered Crimea after 2014. With this in mind, 43% is unrealistically low, let's say they get 56% of the televote which still is a relatively normal percentage for a top song in eurovision, that is about 260 points. Their point total then would've been around the same as Spain and UK - given that the juries were not biased, which there is no reason to believe at all. (With these numbers Ukraine would've likely finished 3rd overall, after UK and Spain).
Naturally these numbers are dodgy as they don't take into consideration every single ranking per country (televote), but it's possible to do it.
However, my guess is that Ukraine would've ended up top 5 regardless, so the whining about it being an undeserved winner is, mathematically, bullshit.

ngl I read the mathematically at the end at first and JUST that, I knew it would be good
but yes statistically you can dislike the thing, genre, songs, we all have diff opinions, but it's nothing new, last year they had another banger, and yeah as you said I won't repeat that, you wrote that well very well

I'm super fed up with the entire wah wah bu hu sympathy vote like pls as if Portugal 2017 wasn't a massive sympathy circle jerk because the singer was "potentially terminally ill" give me a fucking break
That song was too, of course, among the better songs that year. But please, Portugal had never before won and they got around 750 points in total which is more than 100 points more than what Ukraine managed to achieve this year.

I'm just happy that uk or spain didn't win.

a televote winner is a worthy winner regardless of what motivations individual people voting might have had. of course the war was going to impact the televotes, but not because aw poor ukraine lets all collectively vote for a shit song lol, it was a genuinely great entry and by far the most impactful and memorable performance to a majority of people, for obvious reasons
