Comics is an umbrella term for all comics ig, graphic novels are specifically long form stories, tho I think it might vary a little regionally what is classified as a graphic novel

Honestly I’m sure people just use the two interchangeably and make up their own criteria for what can be considered what, but comics is the name of the medium/art form so idk why they’d gatekeep that word. That’s dumb, a comic is a comic even if it’s a doodle in someone’s notebook
