I'll have to remember that it's a religious holiday where I live (not for the Halloween bit, but for Evangelic Christians which is a big community where I live)

but other than that no plans other than probably cleaning my house
Each country has their own traditions to honour their dead.
But i still winder how big the beets was if they could put a light in them.
When they came to the state they used pumpkins instead.

this holiday has nothing to do with the dead though, it's purely meant to celebrate the reformation of the religion back in the day by Martin Luther (german dude, not MLK)

well, easy, considering nearly everyone here is either Protestant or Evangelisch
as far as I now they don't do Allerheiligen or Allerseelen??? I think that's purely catholic, but I could be wrong
I do miss Allerheiligen a bit though, was kinda nice to go visit the grave just to be able to shittalk all the other families being present

I just wanted to say, because most non-German people don't know who Martin Luther is and think I'm talking about Martin Luther King (it has happened before and since I don't know where you are from and what your education on religious beliefs throughout Germany is, I just wanted to add it)

yup, the guy who nailed his resolutions/theses on the church wall because he was not happy with how the catholics were interpreting the bible
(which is about the whole extend of what I remember)

It's strange tho, like one year you stand in front of the family grave with one of your relatives and the next year their name is engraved in the stone too.

he was also a big old racist and antisemitic and pretty misogynistic but yeah, he wanted a more benevolent god because catholic good is pretty cruel. Also no more sexy statues or pictures of saints in churches.

well, luckily my family is so small and the age gaps so big, the only reason that would happen would be freak accidents or illnesses no one knew about

but yeah, I get the sentiment
like it's really just this dawning of "wow, last year they stood here with me talking about something or another and now they're here forever"
