26 isn't a mature student at all, most of the people were 40+ in my classes. Plus nobody will ever know because nobody asks age or really even talks much. Online learning is a good way to get back into it

I got a worthless degree in health and wellness that i'll never use
this is generally true yes, but in my current study all we do is talk about our age but that's foreign language learning so it's definitely something completely different

like not in a haha friendly way but to the point where she dropped out i think

not saying that to scare u off but definitely not the same vibe as norwegian uni no
nonetheless i think if u want to go to uni u should

im 24 and on my 4th year now, i have a bachelors degree in social anthropology, ive studied gender studies and now im doing a bachelor in culture and communication with media science

being a mature student isn't something anybody thinks about if you aren't over 30 i would say, especially if u don't look old for your age. i think that, if you feel like doing it, but the pre-work sucks (so, spending the next year with classes and small courses), i think you should try and have something on the side that makes you keep going. may it be a hobby you love or something else, so you don't have a year of just sucky things. i wrote the swedish equivalent of the SATS 4 times before getting into a program i wanted, and it would have sucked to study for that if i didn't study somtehing i enjoyed while doing so as well

i have studied for 4,5 years at uni and have 1,5 years left of studies of my current program  (law)
have studied linguistics, french and political science before (courses)
yeahh I think the only thing for me will be the outside of uni sort of student culture like i dont think i could handle going out drinking with people who are way younger and only just felt freedom and go too crazy hahaah
I do think im gonna really love jewellery making so im hoping that its more fun than work but yea thats a good point i'll defo have to make sure i balance it well
oooo  that sounds like alot of work! are the other courses like college??
yeah no i enjoyed that part for half a year and then i was tired sklsjkkjsslk

yees sounds like a good plan then !!

yeah they were courses on university so they were like, a bit more like introducing than when you get deeper into a subject but still college lvl !

i went to college at 24 and like  you are a returning adult student atthatpoint some of yall being goofy telling her otherwise. 24 isnt 18 youre not in the same peer group as the other students and its harder to make friends. but i wasnt there for friends i was there to get a degree and i took my classes more seriously than my classmates did. the kids used to piss me off honestly talking during class wehn i wanted to hear what the damn teachers was saying.

thats crazy in the uk u can only have 1 uni degree thats funded so if i'd gone to uni at 18 i wouldnt be able to go back and do something else unless i paid for it
one degree as you can "only" get a bachelor's degree and if you want a master's degree you have to fund it, or is master the "one degree"?

so you can get funding for bachelors, masters and phd but you cant like change your subjects or do extra subjects

shes an american who went to england for her bachelor i think, and she had a horrible time there
she just moved to norway this summer, age 30,  for her masters degree and she was so scared that the experience would be the same, w the bullying, but from what i can tell most of the ppl in her class r the same age group as her?? and i think shes having a good time? i would think so at least.

also, me starting a new bachelors degree this year age 24 i was scared id be the oldest amongst tha 1st year students but there are several ppl older than me, and verrrrry few  that r straight outta vgs so that was nice

26 is not a mature student imo, the people i study with range from 18 to 70ish and I would say those who are 40-50+ are mature, the rest are more.. yeah, same age as the new people.

i am on my 6th year at uni, i have studied english, linguistics, theoretical linguistics and now northern sami
same here, people in my uni that im in the same year as ranged between being 18 to 50 when we started
the most common was ofc early twenties, but there were more than i expected who were 26+ and like at least 3 were 50+
18 isn't common here, because high school is until the year you turn 19, so if you are 18 you likely turn 19 during the first few months
yeah same here, there were only 2 people who were 18 when we started, and they turned 19 fairly quickly. people were more conscious of those who were 18 than those above 26 lol just bc 18 is very very young

yesss thats what im worried about is the mindset for everyone else is going to be so different im not used to being around young people so much so im hoping it will help me just get my head down and focus more on uni than socialising

i mean it probably depends a lot on the course youre taking, the culture there around studying, partying etc., and not so much age. ofc 18 and 26 is a large age gap and you probably wont have a lot in common with the younger students, but you also probably wont be the only one above 24 at least.
in my course most people were there for the same thing, everyone took the classes equally serious no matter their age and everyone were friendly and got along/made friends despite age gaps

i mean i did make a lot of like minded friends in college but being older absolutely helped me focus on what mattered. im really glad i was older when i got my degree. i wasnt mature enoguh at eighteen.

i think it depends a lot on the program but yeah i agree

the law program had a lot of people fresh from high school which stood out (and was annoying). when i studied linguistics, political science and french the age was more varied
yes i could imagine, i think youre right it depends on the program. i study philosophy so everyone in my course are all here for the same thing, people are mature, take the classes very seriously (but not in an annoying way) and everyone gets along, but i could imagine it's different in law hehe

i think this is a good point, there are probably benefits to studying when you are older, being more mature and being able to take it more seriously will allow  you to also understand the course work better and do better on the exams etc, so youre getting a higher quality of education than if you were to do the same at 18

most students here are around those ages, I saw and got to know some who are older, when the oldest I met was like 34
there is no age for studying and educating yourself, and no age for getting a degree
