i didnt oftentimes at home when i grew up because no one in my family would do it
also i didnt want my dad (wheelchair user) to not be able to go to toilet if i decie to take a long hot bath .... so i left the door unlocked most of the time
we had tweo bathrooms but the other one was upstairs, so the rest of my family culd have just used other one if u lock it, but the bathroom with the bathtub was the only one on the lower floor + the only one big enough for the wheelchair and with a disability friendly toilet
but when i moved out i started to get into the habit of locking the door ofcourse ... ur mom accidentally coming in when u are on the toilet wasnt really embarassing to me when i grew up, but a roommate? no thanks. id have to kms from shame.
but rn i live in my own apartment and th bathroom door doesnt have a lock (becuase the house is from the 1920es or soemthing and idk a lot of stuff is weird here)
i dont mind it since i live alone but it can be a little weird when u have guests over
