y'know I love kpop lol. but gonna comment anyway. I do think it is a lot better than western pop music in its current guise. it's so much more creative, inventive and fun. also kpop doing the 70s/80s revival 100x better than American pop imo

i think people don't appreciate how clever and inventive some of the songs are. i know many kpop performers don't write music themselves (although some do), but still there are people out there who write the music and often do a v good job creatively. it's like saying all old hollywood films are bad or uncreative because they were made in a similar 'factory line' environment
is it really 80s, more like 90s

But how can you know what it is and what it's not if you don't listen to kpop?

i'm not into k-pop, but yeah i don't understand the hate either.. like you probably don't even hear k-pop in radio etc (i mean mainstream radio music can be annoying, because sometimes you have to listen it even tho you don't want to)
just listen what you want you and enjoy and let other enjoy their type of music, not a big deal. what's the point of bashing others from their interests?

i'm thinking of the disco revival - https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/9326316/lady-gaga-justin-timberlake-sza-dua-lipa-disco-radio-revival/

kpop had a lot of disco revival songs this year - Gfriend's Mago, TXT's Blue Hour, Sunmi's 2020 song (whose name I can never type lol), JYP's When We Disco are a few

i feel like u will find lots of western artists doing disco inspired songs but u wont find many on the hitlists, seems more like its a matter of whats trending and not

I just think the fanbase can be quite annoying on certain platforms, as well as any fanbase can. This does not only limit to Kpop, but it is what I frequently experience on social medias.

people use kpop just to mean all popular korean music. Disco is closely related to pop and the two genres can converge. it's not exclusively one or the other. as you can see in the billboard article referencing Dua Lipa, Lady gaga etc (all part of the disco revival, all pop music, all did well) the 'disco revival' is a phrase more than anything encompassing music released now that has a 'retro' or 'vintage' vibe (specifically 70s/80s)
