hmmmm i kinda get her bc i sure dont like how much of the development is in the hands of some big poopoos and idk the fact that there is no real ethical guidelines for ex neural data. it appears to be hard to regulate the data websites, social media platforms etc collect even now (if i recall correctly, on insta, your profile automatically used for training their ai and you have to specifically opt out of it). also that sustainable ai/cs isnt really a thing anyway and there is so much hidden work behind all of these cool tools that we get. and the lack of diversity in datasets from which we model these things

but i do think that people are heavily overestimating what ai can and cannot do. general ai is so SO far from ever happening dfghjkl
AI won't take over for the next few years, because the people who use it are unintelligent too and don't believe simple answers from AI already because they're that bad at prompting it.

Source: Thomas, who hates feet, and sits very close to me at work complained loudly last month, because CoPilot gave him an unsatisfactory answer when he asked how many days were between x and y, and it didn't include end and start date, and he hasn't used AI since.
Help some people are just doomed to stupidity it seems
at least it slows progress a little

AI will be a blessing for the health sector honestly. Denmark is trying to implement it in patient's journals to pre-screen for diabetes.
writing an essay on neuroprosthetics for one of my courses rn. excited to see how such technologies continue develop. as well as the tasks, such as the above. i think a lot of people are missing that ai is much more than ex. image generating

Fr there are a lot of fields it can help a lot in but the ai bros are too busy to make anime tiddies to use that as an argument even very funny
The AI bros have a fucking weird focus. The amount of times someone has called me to ask about adding an AI integration into a product they're selling, and when we ask what the purpose of it would be, and how and why they think training AI on personal data is allowed in this circumstance, is honestly very worrying.

Best example is someone who's made a speech to text program for children with dyslexia to use in schools, but now they want to keep the record of all the children using the program to train and better their product, which is... uh...

This is so true! AI has a lot of good uses, which we unfortunately never really see mentioned, because worst-case scenarios are more interesting for people.

I was kinda excited about the court cases on AI "art" and AI training on writing, but given that most of these cases are American, I am afraid of the future instead now.

welp, had to argue with a girl at uni in a group project why we need to explicitly ask for the user's consent when using their data

I am glad you know! It's a small start, because the market feels like a wild west right now.

true. there are genuine concerns about ai, but those ones are rarely brought up in media. and genuine benefits that will make our lives so much better in the future, also rarely brought up

hmh, the ownership of such artwork is kind of ambiguous + the plagiarism
