wait im confused would korean disco be considered k-pop wouldnt it be k-disco
people use kpop just to mean all popular korean music. Disco is closely related to pop and the two genres can converge. it's not exclusively one or the other. as you can see in the billboard article referencing Dua Lipa, Lady gaga etc (all part of the disco revival, all pop music, all did well) the 'disco revival' is a phrase more than anything encompassing music released now that has a 'retro' or 'vintage' vibe (specifically 70s/80s)
doesnt that make it kinda dumb to be like im a fan of k-pop if k-pop is just anything as long as its korean and produced in korea, like it literally doesnt need to have anything in common then

unless youre genuinely listening to music because of the language itself

when people say they're a fan of kpop, it usually means they take an interest in music produced in korea. which is fine - it's like saying you like Italian cinema, or Russian literature. kpop groups have differences, but also similarities which comes from often sharing producers, cultural impacts, dealing with similar entertainment agencies, etc

yeah, i believe so. Koreans themselves wouldn't I suppose view it as 'kpop' (but I believe they refer to it as kpop in a professional capacity in some interviews/award shows these days because that's what it's referred to internationally, so it's a nod to international fans) Korea has a big interest in exporting their entertainment and media in general. Not just to America or whatever, but primarily the other East Asian countries
