The hatred for Peterson started way before the swimsuit model scandal though,
Also, 'obesity isn't sexy' shouldn't be a hot take. Kinda shows how desperate people are if they latch onto something as insignificant as that.
If he's labelled as a right wing hero then that's enough. Politics have become greatly polarized online due to the america-centric worldview 99% of Americans have Most online international spaces are dominated by Americans after all, and their two-party system makes everything black and white.

Also I think there's a general agreement of obesity isn't sexy. You'll see people say otherwise, but if you look at aesthetics and see gen z'ers rave about an outfit on Instagram it's usually heavily photoshopped thin people still. 
With that said I honestly understand why he's getting criticism for his tweet about the swimsuit model, because we don't live in a time where people's ability to be on the cover of a magazine is defined by their fuckability and their worth as a human isn't defined by how much men want to fuck them either. Swimsuits aren't there for the sex appeal of men, but exist as a piece of clothing (or two) used for the practical event that is swimming or sunbathing. Therefore it is in really bad taste, when a comment is made about a woman and whether or not some man she doesn't care about want to fuck or masturbate to her picture or not. It's a swimsuit magazine, so the actual demographic for the magazine is propably other women - some of whom have the same body type as the model and might feel uncomfortable in their body because of it.
