we call it jumper in the UK but in japanese its seetaa セーター which maybe translates more to sweater ? sorry if this is a bit too late of a reply 

edited to say that i lowkey want to fill this out with the japanese translation then just realised that in my head i translate the japanese to british english anyway so all of the choices would just be what i would pick in british way

i honestly have never ever heard someone from england say jersey when referring to clothing. that being said, i can only speak for the Midlands part of england (middle of country). i have only ever seen jersey used when american bands/singers are here on tour and selling merch
