we know wishbone and we know shes like a cool sweet good person- but etjen hasnt known her as long as we have. for all HE knows- after being  hired by a competitor she could sabotage things here with the access she has. we know she would never- but many many people would.
If it went like this I wouldn't have had any issues with it at all. But if you read my post on the previous page you will read things went differently. You will also read that I'm not shocked or mad about being fired at all.
right and youre reacting pretty normally but nobody else from your server is reacting normally lmao.  it sounds like there was confusion about whether youd be paid or not and that its been sorted out in the days since.

There are some very specific exceptions and it may have very well been illegal to fire you, I'm no lawyer but in general it is illegal to fire someone for simply applying for another job.
another thing tho as a worker to look out for- and we're pretty far of topic now- but you can be fired for OTHER shit that the employer just makes up when the reality is that theyre firing you for this. you know?
yeah that happened to a friend of mine, it's I think worse than being fired for being caught looking for other jobs or applying, at least to me it sounds worse

yet people from the server react like it is the worst outcome for that situation, I'm just glad he was reasonable enough to give the month notice despite not having to, and paying for it

That could be possible since it's actually not something to be discussed considering the contract, but Etjen did here anyway.

In the netherlands people often say to their boss they are looking for something new tho without consequences, so it isn't as 'logical' as you state it
But the boss is Australian, not Dutch
so I don't know how valid that argument is here
He lives there, yes. Doesn't mean he can violate a contract tho. As said: please read my post a few of 1 pages back idk
idk
He found a reason, which is as a higher up, applying to do stuff for a competitor,
and from australian laws it seems like he can end the contract immediately so long as he pays for the notice period, which in this case is a month.

Yeah I'm well aware of that shit. I would like to think Europe is better than this to some degree but I know of some cases where it really isn't. My dad was terminated and they didn't wanna give him his compensation so they made up some bullshit about him bumping into someone's car with a company vehicle 4 (!) years prior to the termination which was already dealt with (insurance paid for it fully). My dad took it to court and won but many people don't have the energy for a 6+ month long process.

I know a woman who was fired for telling her colleague she had a crush on her (which is not illegal) and was fired shortly after because some money was missing in the cash register after her shift (like 50ct or something, which is super common and happens to every cashier from time to time).

Edit: bumping into not stealing oopsie I mixed up words

what language was your initial contract written in? was the contract renegotiated after the site was sold? i wonder if there isnt a lot being lost in translation here too. that wouldnt surprise me. no saying thats hwat happened but it wouldnt shock me.

from what Etjan and Wishbone said in general it seems like there was a misunderstanding for sure, idk about the contract but there were some clashes

English and yes. He created it. I didn't want to have one actually, but Etjen insisted. Understandable, but that's why I was so surprised he in the first place didn't seem to want to give me the one month notice payment or wanted to let it depend on random made up conditions. Like, why do you insist on a contract if you're not going to stick to it?

I'm glad that's solved now, though. Let's say it was a miscommunication...

Well, chiming in with a little something from Luxembourg's law, but if you work (full-time, so it probably doesn't matter too much, but just so there is a bit of talk about varying levels of work committment), you need to ask your boss if you want to work something else additionally. Like you even need to ask your boss for permission to start a freelance business on the side. And if he says no and you still do it, he can actually fire you for it.
Again, this only really comes to play for full-time jobs (or well, above a certain amount of hours worked per week), because it is said that from that point onwards, having two jobs may influence your ability to perform well on both and your first job has the right to decide if they allow you that time committment.

Usually bosses allow it, but legally speaking, they are allowed to say no.

true, but if you can prove they just looked for a reason to fire you, you can pursue legal actions
like some things you can't get fired for because the law protects you, but it's common practice for bosses to then start looking for things they can fire you that don't need a lot of proof and then it's difficult to claim wrongfull termination
like the laws in Europe in many countries are good when it comes to that, but someone really petty who just wants to see you suffer still has  alot of options if going at it cleverly and you not actively being able to record and track this because you're not aware of it
but those instances are rather rare
