I am about to go into my third year for my degree in Creative Writing (+ film studies) so I write for leisure and work. I specialise largely in fiction with a lot of urban fantasy inspiration but I don't really stick to specific genres. I also have some works on AO3, mainly to help me get feedback on how my writing is improving. I also used to write for NT on VP.

I find grammar rather easy though I'm a native speaker. When I leave uni, I'm hoping to get some work in proofreading :3

I honestly can't remember the longest thing I've ever written xD

I have a few pieces I'm proud of. I have a screenplay I wrote around 3 years ago that I got an award for but I'm most proud of the work I've written this year. My writing keeps growing and I love being able to see the growth!

I've largely been inspired to write for people like myself who find comfort and friends in books and media. It's all kept me company during difficult times in my life and I want to be able to do the same for others. I also like to live in ideal worlds. People wise, my boyfriend is who inspires me most as he's so encouraging and reads anything I write from a birthday card to my fanfiction to my uni essays xD!

I prefer to write in notebooks but I've developed a condition in my wrists which means I can't write for long periods of time anymore. I mostly use my laptop/tablet/phone (with google docs so I can work wherever) and then my notes end up in about 60 different notebooks and note apps in my phone xD
I was actually considering creative writing in college but I only like to write sometimes, like 2 months every year lmao, so I settled for a safer major : D but I’m still really curious about the classes one would take, what kinds of assignments/exercises do you do in uni?

and aw that’s sweet, I’m glad you have someone to support your writing ✨

I also have a million notebooks and pens haha more than I’ll ever be able to use up
That's why I doubled it up with Film xP I was scared of looking like I just picked it as an "easy course" (which irritatingly, so many do).
We usually have assignments that have specific criteria like "a 2,000 word piece focused on place" etc. We've also had assignments that work with mixed media such as films or 'hypertext narrative' (making a website that's like a game or something). Other times it's poetry/ a focus on character etc.
I feel like I'm very bad at explaining this xD

Saame! So many empty but pretty notebooks I'm afraid of ruining xD
Oooh that class actually sounds pretty fun :’D

and I always pick my “ugliest” notebooks to write in first lol

Here we go. :d

I used to write quite a lot. I started with poetry when I was 10 (trying to cope with life, mostly with my grandpa having cancer and being on his death bed). Then at age 14 I slipped into fanfiction. Now don't get me wrong, I knew about it earlier, but that's when I got motivated to try writing some for myself.
Although I kinda see German as close to my mother tongue, when I started, the language still felt a bit strange to me. So I liked using writing to broaden my vocabuary and just getting used to working with words differently. Grammar does come fairly easy to me in German and also a bit in English, but it's not really something I'm concentrating on. As I'm no native speaker, I do make the occasional weird mistakes (like weird phrasings that make you go "I know what she means, but that just isn't quite right";), so I never really focussed on getting that fixed too much. I really loved working with the setting, the modd, the emotion. It was something I really had a lot of pride in, people were always complimenting me on my descriptions and how I described emotions on a very raw level.
Now, in case you wonder why past tense, well I kinda stopped writing a couple years ago. Wiriting for me always was a means of escape from my life. I used it, because my life was shit and I had no other ways to cope. But then I found happiness in life and suddenly writing started to feel like a chore. I do write sometimes, small little things (my writing energy mostly gets focussed into blogs or witty short stories I tell my friends, when we are bored). I still use my narrative skills sometimes - just two weeks ago I was telling a friend of mine the story about how Nero burned down Rome and compared him to the Trump of Ancient Rome (because he wanted to make Rome great again). My friend was having a blast and told me, she really learned many new things that day. But it's not really something I'd love to pursue. (My mom told me I should dabble in comedy, like satire and such, but I truly dislike the public part about it and writing for someone else just seems wrong to me.)
So, long story short, I rarely write anymore. I do have some stories I am very proud of, for various reasons even. I mean, there was one time when I managed to write a very gore-centered scene, that was kinda hidden. Like, it started with something akin to sex and ended with the obvious phrase "but now she's dead and I have to find a way to get rid of all the blood", which makes it clear, that it wasn't about two lovers but a murderer and their victim. I also still come up with plots that I'd love to read about and I often talk them through with friends, but I don't have the energy to write them myself.
My inspiration often came from the fandoms I was writing for (though I do have quite a few stand-alone pieces - most of my works aren't finished) and kinda writing about my dreams or what I felt was missing in other fanfictions. There are a few authors that kinda inspired me, though I feel like most of the time, it wasn't really an obvious inspiration, more of a byproduct of reading a lot by that person during a certain time.
When I was writing a lot (so basically between the ages 14 to 17), I did have a file binder with a bunch of notes and segments on the stories I was working on. I would often get ideas in the weirdest places (my math teacher really wasn't impressed with me being more interested in my binder than in the blackboard) and then in the evening or on the weekends, I would type all my handwritten notes into the computer. It actually helped me save quite some time, because I could use that moment as a first revision step and my first drafts could be written on the school bus (which was usually a 50 minute ride, so really worth it).

I haven't written much in english, but I can see if I find my Repo - the genetic opera fanfiction? Though I'd have to send it to people privately, because I doubt I could link to it openly on VP, it's also very gory and messy.

I find it rlly interesting how lots of writers start out with fan fiction I guess it’s one of the best ways to get into writing

and maybe you’ll be interested in writing again someday ✨ I have months where I barely write at all but this year I’ve been trying to be more consistent

a lot of them are really fun :3
it's also terrifying though because you are constantly showing your work, even when it's the first crappy draft, to your peers and teachers. It's also great to get instant feedback and actually useful criticism rather than "it's good".

Haha, I feel you. I've been just diving headfirst instead and using them xD
