Interesting, my dad has asthma and he got in the air force. Now that I think about it, that's very strange, I should ask him about it.
Very few people get into the Norwegian thing tho like they send it out to all 18 y/os or whatever, then 1/3 of them are sent to the next session and maybe like 1/3 of those get into the shit honestly. And it's enough checking off "I don't want to" to avoid it so yeah. I kinda did want it because I saw it as an opportunity to get actually paid to study, but asthma life.
I assumed it wasn't the same as it is here, everyone here goes unless they get an exemption for religious reasons, medical reasons or political reasons, and even in the case of medical reasons you can still go because most of the jobs in the idf aren't combat and a lot of them aren't even traditional military things, say, my mum was what's called a teacher soldier, she taught people about nature and shit, something like that I don't really know.
I'm sorry it sounds very disturbing to me

omg I wish we could do something like this but I was a year older then everyone so I was called before and it was so shitty because I should have gotten someone to help me in that place but nooo.. so I had to do a lot of things twice because they don't know how to work properly ughhhghg
Hmm that sucks, couldn't you do it a year earlier with the grade above you?
nope because I might be their age but I was below them so like, fuck meee..
they also were super stressed about my final date? as I was 19 when I finished high school, my date to be enlisted was ummm 14\07? but then I got a call from a girl asking me when I want to postpone it and I could pick any date that I wanted.
super weird.
but then before the new date they decided that I'm not a good fit,
but a week before my newer date another girl called me asking if I know that I should be in Tel hashomer in November and I'm like girl they let me off, get an update before you call me and she got mad at me pff

I hate the army so much they work so badly ugh
Honestly, it's such a mess, my brother went through so much shit because they suck at bureaucracy so fucking much. I hope I don't have too much trouble but knowing me I'll probably make trouble for myself lol.

I just know the medical department, and anything religious there really is a mess.
I can respect religion but I don't UNDERSTAND why the fuck my friends that stayed in their bases in Yom Kippur that didn't fast, didn't get any fucking normal food, and couldn't get anything out or the kitchen.

I get what you mean, I think, but the military is such a big part of our culture because everyone goes and because of the situation, it's kind of inevitable. The other thing about the idf though is that it's also a national service type of thing so a big part of it is doing your part to help the country whichever way you can because Israel, at it's core is about the people, it was built by real, normal people, not colonialists or army men or some shit.

Because kashrut is controlled by the Haredim that don't even do their service. Fucking assholes.

I think the situation makes it worse. One thing had been that a country like Sweden does it, but when countries that are essentially actively in war does it it's like ah yes this will continue forever how brilliant. But we will disagree on this and yes.. It is what it is.

Fucking hate those bastards,
of course not all of them but those specific assholes that let other people starve because of their religion and ideology.

The army shouldn't be influenced by the people that won't go and contribute but claim that practicing their religion at home is the thing that keeps our soldiers safe.. yeah right.

No, I agree with you, I don't think it should be mandatory and I think that things like what my mum did should be separate from the military. There's an actual program that is separate from the military that a lot of religious girls and other people that don't go to the military go to and I think that's probably better for the country in the long haul, you know, for more people to do that instead. They do things like volunteering in at risk youth shelters and the likes. That being said, I do personally want to go to the military because I can study medicine for free with them. Though I could study for free in the university that my dad is associated with because he is... I don't know, I have at least two years. It's FINE.

I just find it very problematic to do it like this, I really do.

Dude I cannot stand this rhetoric, it's disgusting. The thing is they truly believe that that's what they're doing so I can't say they're bad people for it.

Yeah I did read it but I don't have a lot to elaborate on. I fully support the plan to take medicine for free via the military tho. After all, I would be down to take my education via the military if I could because it's paid. But yeah, it's still a problematic institution.

It's a military, of course it's problematic. At least we're not like the US army?
