i honestly feel like i might react that way for my kid too like i want my kids to not have to have a harder life or be part of any oppressed group like the world sucks

Maybe the flags are meant to represent people? Like not just 1 flag? lbtq+ is such a big term it means alot more than just "gay". Kind of like "why do we have different flags for different countires when we can all just have 1 flag". do you understand?
