I don't know I'm not a woman, the only thing I've concluded that I only like characters if I think they're cute or that they're relatable and relatable characters for me are usually not the protagonist and villains and shit unless it's a girl flick or whatever it's called is usually men unless it's the evil step-mother and that's not relatable
I think women do the exact same than men on this one though
At least everyone I know who idolizes person X would definitely want to be with them if they had the chance
I think idolizing is a form of attraction
I think idolising is unhealthy

Don't women do the same....
i mean there are different types of idolization and i guess wanting to be with someone is one of them, but that isn't really what the quote is talking about

idk i follow some youtubers that are men that i don't find attractive but that i think have things they could teach me about cooking/hiking/climbing, and i know men that have exactly 0 females on their youtube page where they go for knowledge about shit they are interested in

Yeah I mean sure this is true and I have idols I am 0% attracted to
I'm just saying that it's not that uncommon if you're idolizing them

Yeah well I guess
I think that men just can't relate to women the way women might be able to relate to men

not necessarily! there is just much more male characters that are written well bc of many reasons, but it's important to know why you like/don't like a character to understand if it's internalized mysogyny

but if female characters in general are fewer and poorly written, how can we expect people to relate to them? if women predominantly like male characters as well, is it the average man's fault that he doesn't have a female character as his favourite character?

yeah idk your reasons ofc but i could just relate to the fact and for me i found that it was a lot easier to appreciate and respect men, and realized that i had to actually put effort into trying to actually see women and their work since society doesn't rly respect women lol

but i see ur and gilmore's points and think both perspectives are probably relevant
