oh, wait, good to have you here
I watched Logan's Run (that you recommended me) and LOVED it! I also had a talk with my dad (I was right, he loves the movie too) and he gave me a bunch more of old sci-fi recommendations and I'm probably doing a sci-fi marathon on the week-end. Thanks for putting the movie on my radar and getting me invested into those movies again!
ooo what'd he recommend!?

apparently there was a Logans Run TV series in the 70s I really wanna watch
He was really big on Soylent Green (which plays in 2022, let's see how accurate they were :d) and Zardoz (though that one he wasn't so big on, he rates it more of a fun to watch but not as good as the other two)
Reminds me that I wanted to watch Idiocracy again because I remember him watching it and being: This is the most stupidest movie they could have done with such a great premise.
And then my mum came in with In Time and Ender's Game, because she completely went the dystopian route and has been watching a bunch of these on TV in the past months. But I have to say, I rather prefer the sci-fi approach the 60/70s had to offer. It was simultaneously colourful, hopeful and yet super grim. It's just such a specific feeling to it.
(Also, I have to go find this TV series now!)

I love Soylent Green, I'm always joking about it taking place in 2022 haha.
Zardoz is FUCKING WILD, and lots of folks view it as a goofy film but when you really sit down and analyze it, its incredibly chilling, a very unsettling criticism on humankind. I also watched it on LSD though lol.

also I may be biased, but you definitely gotta add Barbarella (1968 ) to the list lol

Yeah, that's what my dad said too about Zardoz. A wild ride, but not without merrit.

I've seen mentions of it in a Youtube video by Mina Lee and it made the movie look just utterly goofie and kind of like a soft porn (well, basically, a Netflix Original from way back when). So not sure how I stand on that, but I think I'm also just biased towards the few chosen excerpts Mina chose to bring a point across

It's really important to remember the social changes happening in the late 60s/early 70s to understand why so many movies felt kinda...porny haha
Film companies in the US were under a kind of self-censorship guide (Hays Code) until 1968, when that ended, shit kinda went off the rails, and looking at it from todays perspective it seems so unnecessarily sexual, but the only reason we can have that viewpoint is because they pushed the boundaries so hardΒ during the sexual revolution. Exploitation media really does mirror what society viewed as unacceptable at the time, and it gave us the social freedom to use subversive topics in our media today.Β
