That's not expensive at all, yarn here is much more expensive for mediocre acrylic. I don't like to knit with synthetic fibers anymore so especially for natural fibers, specifically animal fibers, its really affordable.
It's probably very soft, knowing alpaca, and alpaca is pretty light too. I think it's sport weight?
Makes sense i guess? i never explored anything but synthetic, wool and cotton. I mostly use cotton and wool though, which is fairly priced.
