Seriously comparing new foods to familiar things or trying it with stuff I like helped a lot, and also having control and experimenting with new ways of trying it 

Feeling forced to eat new things made it even more terrifying

it tends to be part of sensory problems like SPD, as in you can't be like "this is good, idc what it feels like" bc you get a sensory overload when a texture you don't like enters ur mouth  it's a fucking nightmare
