but like whats the difference between a thin person showing off their body and a person who is thing because of an ed showing off their body is the question and the answer is we cant really know because were not doctors lmfao like in a case like cooney its obvious that something is wrong but in many cases the public is simply not ever going to know where the line is drawn imo.
i think a lot of the times it's also mislabeled as body checking. as that is only for people with an ED. and you can't just assume that from most people. i feel like there are def healthy skinny people who show off their body for attention, but also often that people are projecting their own insecurities by accusing body checking when it's not
Almost everyone body checks, ed or not, just not on the internet or to the extremes
ohh alright. but then again, isn't body checking more something you do out of insecurity rather than "oh look how skinny i am"?

but also like disordered eating is actually like extremely common in our culture.  i've seen estimates as high as like 9% of all americans will have an ED within their lifetime
i can see that, i think a lot of people have unhealthy relationship with food. for ezample, feeling good when you're hungry? or like the feeling of hunger feels like an accomplishment? yeah that's disordered eating. a lot of gymbros also have ed with the way they are obsessively tracking their calorie intake but they will never admit that
ive been self diagnosing myself with adhd these days based on the relatability of the memes and i saw this and i was like 'oh fuck thats me wow ok' like im not like seeing a fat person in the mirror like they say ED is like but my eating is absolutely disordered. i wonder if the percentages are even higher than the highest estimates honestly.

also what do you guys think about people working out just to lose weight? and not for health reasons? is that necessarily fatphobic? i saw this tiktok of a trainer who said she wouldn't help people reach aesthetic goals anymore (like fat booty, thin stomach) but just work on health related reasons.

idk i feel like we're all a bit fatphobic. its a bit like racism or sexism

yeah this is howi feel basically

it's all a trick of the hand nobody actually cares about these girls with eds they just don't want to see thin people (which is fine but you can scroll away rather than projecting on to random girls and women)

there's something about nietzsche in here maybe
i like... dont care about eugenia cooney's health for example but i do care about the health of the millions of girls who watch her and also i dont want to see her gross body it's disturbing and grotesque.
not to say like 'skinny people are gross' like i literally weighed less than a hundred pounds for most of my adult life but at a certain point its gross and like scary to look at.
oh yeah i mean when it’s severely severely obvious that someone is skinny because they’re ill and it’s known that the illness is an ED and not like cancer sure, i understand a public health concern

but the way the body checking accusations manifest on tiktok it’s like literally just random young girls who pop up on your fyp that you know nothing about and more often than not it’s not about being “thin” but about adhering to current body standards like someone like @loserthrift who is thin but trans and doesn’t really have curves will not be accused of body checking while obviously showing off her body in an outfit video, but random girls with like extreme hourglass shapes who aren’t necessarily “sickly thin” will be crucified for wearing a crop top

like i could see people like saying that about me when i was younger like accusing me of this body checking but idk i was too thin and i just liked my body it wasnt like i was like miss cooney needs attention for the weight she lost it was just 'wow im cute look how cute i am' and i happened to be too thin too. people used to ssay all kinds of mean shit to me about thin i was and i couldnt do anything about it. i literally made my self sick a couple times like over eating to try and make the bullying stop lol.

im less concerned about what people do for and to themselves if its for personal reasons compared to like ideals they inadvertently push onto others. if u wanna work out to get skinny legs or to grow an ass its none of my business regardless
i completely get where someone is coming from if they dont want to help people work out just for beauty standard reasons if thats not something they believe in and i imagine ppl passionate about health and working out would have more reason than anyone to draw an actual line there

most ppl i know who work out do it literally just for aesthetic and i personally just do not believe in weight and aesthetic correlating at all, ig, id like to work out so my joints can bear more weight but like i dont give a shit about actual weight. like why bother
