ok since ur looking for advice

basically agree with @Barbarella

tho do remember that some people are lost causes

I'd say go for it, have a discussion, see if he's open

that will help you know if he's close minded or willing to reconsider and think deeply about his beliefs and such
I'm not super interested in having a discussion regarding it because it's outside the things I regularly talk about, I'm mostly concerned that it's a slippery slope to extremism. People are allowed to have different opinions than what I have, if anything that's ideal.

thanks for reminding me of the time I dated a guy who had a ben shapiro loving roommate who always tried to show me MTGOW videos and shit

i ended up getting sent home in a cop car after punching said roommate in the face while drinking cuz he made shitty comments about abortion. They were kind enough to drop the charges so I didn't go to jail (:
yikes, you have to chill

The only opinions I refuse to tolerate are bigoted ones.

I think it'd be helpful in understanding his takeaway of JP. He admires his prioritization of domestic family life. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it could be a red flag, or lead to far right views.

Maybe turn him onto commentators you enjoy.

I dont think its necessarily a bad thing but like @barbarella said if his views end up toxic and you cant succeed in changing his mind, consider your safety and sanity.

You just cant reason with some ppl- like my ex's roommate. Constantly ragging on women and trans ppl and libs and nothing could change his mind. Not even punching him in the face (which was a dumb ass decision anyway lol)

here's a good and lengthy video dissecting jordan peterson (and why he's such a hack)

you can try to change someone's views, but they also have to be willing to put in the effort themselves.

His core political values are left wing, I find it difficult to believe that he would move very far right.

I don't watch any commentators because I don't enjoy any of them.

Then why are you worried he'll get pushed to extremism? JP is worrying because hes often a vehicle to joining the far-right rabbit hole (so is ben shapiro)

I know this really cool older liberal woman she actually likes JP cuz of his jungian analysis (she studied psychology) but she is critical of his ideas and appreciated me pointing out that he misrepresented the c-16 bill

JP spreads so much misinformation I also hope hes critical

I believe he means that friendships are more complex than that when you're older than a child.
Yeah that's exactly what I mean, it's too simplistic to exclusively be friends with people who have the exact same opinions and values as yourself, that's just boring.
not having the exact same opinions and values ≠ wildly opposite values and opinions.
as someone who's been through a lot of friendships, good and bad, you might as well save yourself a lot of trouble and drama and distance yourself from people you disagree with on a core level. it can't end well.

Wdym why do I worry? Everyone who follows political and societal commentary are prone to being pushed into extremism
