which book did u read btw
I read Maybe Someday. I hated the start of the book, and then it just got worse. There were also some yikes stuff in this one, and I actually thought some of the "romantic stuff" seemed borderline abusive. Also, the FMC was the love interest's second choice, because he chose his girlfriend over the main character, but when he got rejected by her (because of the cheating) then he flew into the FMC's arms, while openly admitting he would always chose his now ex-gf over her. Yikes.

It actually was bad enough for me to go look up what normal romance readers thought of the book, and it seemed like most people hated Maybe Someday, but I actually saw a lot of good reviews for November 9, which a lot of people seem to rate as CoHo's best written book? ??
Omg
if N9 is her best, I'm worried since it is has typ 2 assualt scenes (one maybe edited out in later editions), a lot of controlling behavior, the bf belittling her over dumb stuff that if anyone said to me I'd literally want to die.

the N9 review that summarizes it all
Oh yikes. But isn't that unfortunately a theme with most of her books? :/ It ends with us starts with an abusive relationship as well, idk if they're the pair that ends up together, but I've seen a lot of critique of the lack of trigger warnings on this book, because it's advertised as a romance novel.
But I'll be honest and say I won't pick up any of her books again (hopefully. This one was accidental after all)

Also, you're probably rather unhappy about Ali Hazelwood's book, all of them topping the bestseller lists for some reason, because they're all enemy to lovers, lmao.

OKAY I MISSED THIS PART OF THE N9 REVIEW YESTERDAY BUT I'M ABSOLUTELY LOSING IT RIGHT NOW

"The plot twist just secured this book’s place in hell for me. Ben was manipulative. Ben lied. Ben was voyeuristic, trying to see her scars because HE. CAUSED. THEM. This isn’t cute. This isn’t romance. This is a drunk driver running a red light and hitting another car, nearly killing a passenger, and then stalking, abusing, and preying on the passenger who now bears scars because of his reckless behavior. Behavior that she. Forgives. Him. "

BEN THE STALKERY, ABUSIVE, CONTROLLING COLLEGE BOYFRIEND WAS THE ONE THAT DROVE INTO HER CAR. WHICH LITERALLY TOLD HER "It’s your own fault people feel uncomfortable looking at you.” and ". . . you could very well be as dumb as a rock. But at least you’re pretty”

i'm dying over this book like HOW WHY did this become popular

I haven't read Ali Hazelwood's books tbh. I gifted the love hypothesis one to my bff as a birthday present because I thought she'd like it bc i listened to the hype, but after doing that I read more into it and I have regrets. Idk if she has read it yet tho.

one book i read involves what i classify as cheating and it's strongly colours my view of the characters because i end up being like uwu smol babie to the one that is cheated on and lowkey being like you had it fucking coming to the other one when the horrible thing happens but it's nevertheless very sad because my uwu smol babie is upset when it happens so it's all pain

Agreed.
And also please give the appropriate trigger warnings before recommending a "romance book" with triggering topics in it. If I want to read romance, I'm not really into reading about deeply upsetting topics. If I wanted that I would pick up a different book.

Well, the hype can also be right for some books and some people's taste.

I've heard her new book is almost a copy-paste of her old one, just in a different setting.

I honestly don't mind cheating as a topic in a book, but it has to be done better than in the one I read.
Because the main character was cheated on by her own boyfriend, she then broke up with him and moved in with the love interest. The love interest had a girlfriend, whom he loved deeply. The main character then starts having a romantic relationship with him, where they agree it's okay they sometimes end up kissing and being really intimate, without his girlfriend knowing, because their connection is really deep and other-worldly or something like that. The main character also keeps talking shit about her ex-boyfriend, because he cheated on her, but her being "the other woman" is absolutely justified and okay throughout the book.

But if it is "Main character gets cheated on and is emotionally broken and new love interest takes care of them" then I don't mind.
