unless you know specifically if that particular reptile is female or male, for bokmål it would be "en reptil", making it masculine. my dialect is closer to nynorsk though, so personally i'd say "ein reptil"

its funny how it changes for different languages based on if they have a neuter or not. 
spanish : el reptil (masculine)
german : das reptil (neuter)

I think english is kind of funny in how its only pronouns are for living things

oh yeah that's true. i was thinking of the ways that you can convey in norwegian of the sex of an animal "hoa", "hannen", "den tispa", osv), but that doesnt really apply to ei / ein though yeah, mb

im ean theres usually different terms, not for reptiles mby but all the normal everyday animals you may enounter like
søye/vêr, bukk/hind, bamse/binne katt/katte idk the genders of words correspond to the gender of the animals its one of the few instances where it avtually makes sense
