It's one of the perks of our small country! It's sad that they're touching it now though, because most people do either drop out or postpone the last part of their studies for different reasons, so now you'll be in a worse position if stuff happens.
It is, however, very nice, and I wish more people did it, so there was some investment in studying.

Yes ! PhD usually gives you salary though, so you're good at that point

Idk why it has to be that expensive.. I'm almost never there nyway ??? 
I think the collective punishment would make more sense if it was easier to test out professions (and maybe removing some of the options) before choosing. 
You also get paid if you choose a different kind of studying ! We pay everyone over 18 if they study for some time.

I think phd is hard work though, and the pay isn't that good
