but that makes you bilingual no?

nah bilingual technically means you've learnt both languages growing up, so you have two native languages i guess. We discussed it in linguistics and talked about how it's starting to become grayer and where you would draw the line since people learn a second language at a young age and so on, but by current definition, I'm not bilingual and a lot of people who claim they are aren't : P
huh but google defines it as 'a person fluent in two languages'

dictionary.com defines it as "able to speak two languages with the facility of a native speaker."

idk man, it's just the definition i've learnt at uni, I don't claim to be an expert on it, I'm guessing it's just used differently in linguistics and day to day speak

so being able to speak a language with as much ease as a native speaker

yeah I guess? There's someone else on here who has also read some for of linguistics at some point who also defined it the way I do but I don't remember who. The way I've seen it used is usually is in terms of having been raised in two languages and thus knowing both at the capacity of a native speaker. Because they are native speakers I guess? I dunno I read a bunch of articles about whether it could be harmful to kids to be raised bilingually or not for class so (spoiler, it aint)

I mostly just think it's a pretty fun language fact to throw out haha but word definitions change you know, I have a feeling it's going to be completely accepted as just knowing more than one language at some point, if it isn't already
