anyays i kinda think it's cute from a nostalgia standpoint, like going back and appreciating it, i guess there's no harm in younger people being into it, tho it's hard to get out of the i liked it first mentality sometimes, but im more bothered by alt culture in general becoming more mainstream than emo specifically coming back

like all of early to mid 00s is kinda coming back now so it shouldn't be too surprising that emo is too
im not as bothered by it im just curious as to how and when it happened hahahah its so strange

i think it's a combo of nostalgia being trendy and fashion and trends always coming back in waves, like skinny jeans will be super popular for like five years and then baggy jeans will get popular. So i guess emo and early 00s web aesthetic is back now because the last like 5+ years online has been very focused on looking sleek and minimalist

i hate this era i hate it
i just want my thousand popups, home made profiles w stolen html & questionable fashion choices baaack. like back then it was more "okay" to be ugly than now w social media dominating every thing w a false idea of identity fuelled by consumerism in a way more insidious manner than when i was a teen.

because we're addicted to our own past and every 20 years or so we'll bring back trends, smell, texture due to feeling nostalgic

i actually wrote an essay on it in uni, recommend reading this book if you're interested in knowing more about the subject: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Retromania-Pop-Cultures-Addiction-Past/dp/0571232094

Me too. I dont really care about this trend because when I start to notice that all types of mentalities on internet is basically just trends, I start to care less. My big goal is not to follow new trends on social media, but to start to go away from internet more and more. I am already making progress in letting my internet addiction calming down. I use the internet and my cellphone less and less.

i mainly use my phone for the same 3 coloring book apps, my spotify & reading fanfics. my computer is however my lifeline since i write and watch insane amount of asmr to calm me nerves.
but it has changed so much in the last 5 years, even 10 years ago it wasn't more peaceful sure, but it was a completely different vibe where u didn't *have* to be online 24/7 to be in the know or to be *woke* enough to not be sent to the shadow realm

plus i miss seeing ppl's anime shrines and blatantly stolen shit. ahhh. fandom was also way more fun in the livejournal days as well. now it's all abt making a name for yourself and building a brand that you can make money on, investing in your *hobbies* so you can *excel*. it's not abt just doing shit because it's fun, you *have* to make money on it.

Interesting. I have thought a lot about how I will gain information without the internet turned on 24/7 as I used to do, because something I will miss from the internet is to actually learn stuff. I liked to go to youtube everyday just to learn new stuff and to explore. So I realised I simply have to read more books so I still get new information. The problem is, or rather was, is that I got easily bored by books. So I had to make a plan. I have started meditating (again) for like 2 months ago (and already noticed improvement in my psyche), then I realised that when you use too much internet and social media, your dopamine system is imbalanced. So Im trying a dopamine detox by going away from internet as much as possible and meditating.

These things have I done so far to help me not use internet and social media:
- Deleting instagram app, discord app and other apps (not taking away my accounts, just deleting the apps)
- Installing a program on my computer that takes away all video recommendations on youtube, so instead of going for like 20 videos when I go to youtube, I just watch like 2 videos nowadays
- Turning on app blocker for my safari on my iphone for a certain amount of time every day (typically from 10 am to 7 pm) so I dont get addicted to internet on my phone
- ALWAYS turning of my phone and computer when I dont use them. This helps more than I thought because now it is not as tempting as before to pick it up. I especially do this at night when I'm sleeping and when I'm meditating.

My non-internet habits are much better. Not perfect still, but better.
