I finished a book yesterday with "it's okay you cheat because we're soulmates" and I would take enemies to lovers every day over that shit.
one book i read involves what i classify as cheating and it's strongly colours my view of the characters because i end up being like uwu smol babie to the one that is cheated on and lowkey being like you had it fucking coming to the other one when the horrible thing happens but it's nevertheless very sad because my uwu smol babie is upset when it happens so it's all pain
I honestly don't mind cheating as a topic in a book, but it has to be done better than in the one I read.
Because the main character was cheated on by her own boyfriend, she then broke up with him and moved in with the love interest. The love interest had a girlfriend, whom he loved deeply. The main character then starts having a romantic relationship with him, where they agree it's okay they sometimes end up kissing and being really intimate, without his girlfriend knowing, because their connection is really deep and other-worldly or something like that. The main character also keeps talking shit about her ex-boyfriend, because he cheated on her, but her being "the other woman" is absolutely justified and okay throughout the book.

But if it is "Main character gets cheated on and is emotionally broken and new love interest takes care of them" then I don't mind.
Idk I just find cheating to be such a disgusting thing like morally it's not possible to defend it.
In the books I'm talking about, the sleeping around with a lot of other people results in death so it's very horrible but also masterfully written and it's the point of the series anyway.

allegedly, but typ 80% of revies are like "omg this was everything i love it so much" like omg don't give this to teens and make them think it is normal
Agreed.
And also please give the appropriate trigger warnings before recommending a "romance book" with triggering topics in it. If I want to read romance, I'm not really into reading about deeply upsetting topics. If I wanted that I would pick up a different book.
yes if I pick up a romance i want it to be like Heartstopper tbh
I actually haven't picked up Heartstopper yet. I hope I'll either find it on sale or a used copy, before I want to pick it up lmao. There's a looong waitlist if I want it from the library.

Well, the hype can also be right for some books and some people's taste.

I've heard her new book is almost a copy-paste of her old one, just in a different setting.
oof
just going to slowly move back into Deathless where u literally have to scare an old lady across a meadow at midnight to obtain a special type of flower to give back to your potential mother in law so she doesn't cook you into strew
Fantasy is just a better genre than romance a lot of the time. Romance-themed fantasy is even better.

I'm hoping to finish The Priory of the Orange Tree next week, and my heart absolutely melts for the wlw couple in it.

That's true. As long as it isn't justified, then I don't find it to be too bad to write about. Idk, maybe it's because it seems to be something most people either know someone who experienced, or experienced themselves, so it seems kind of relateable?
But it honestly also sounds like it's handled quite okay in the series you're mentioning.

I actually find these books better the more I read them because I notice how many small seemingly trivial details that the author have put in the book that you see the second time and go like I see, very clever

It's just very sad, I saw a movie classified as a comedy and the main "comedy" thing was that he was cheating on his boyfriend and I felt so sorry for his boyfriend that I spent the entire movie pretty much crying because I found the other guy so incredibly mean and awful and I don't find it even remotely funny it's just sad

I would probably look up whether or not the new series seem to match the book series first. GoT should be wildly different to the ASOIAF books.

If you have Prime you can dunk on the LOTR-universe series Amazon made together. release date is this Friday.
