It kind of feels like goodreads for yarn. There is the main feature, then the forum, your profile and your messaging system.

Omg pretty needles! Mate I'm fully obsessed with interchangeables, it's honestly embarrassing, I have 5 sets smh. Each of them serves a purpose though, I swear! Sort of! I love them all though. except for one, I hate one of them but I didn't know I would when I bought it. I should give it away but also I don't want to give it to anyone because they suck and I hate them ugh. Anyway congrats on your interchangeables, they're a lot of fun. Did you cast anything on yet?

It's a weight of yarn. Weight means the thickness of the thread, not the actually weight of it. So, dk weight is pretty middle of the road, not thick and not thin. It's between sport and aran I think? Maybe worsted, I'm still not sure if aran and worsted are even different lmao. Regardless, the most accurate way to figure out the weight of your yarn is the wpi or wraps per inch. You just measure an inch on a pencil or something like that and wrap your yarn around it. The amounts of wraps you made to make an inch is correspondent to a certain weight or category of yarn. Here's a chart https://www.ravelry.com/help/yarn/weights

Idk, I think it depends more on the yarn you're using. I'd suggest looking for a pattern though, you don't have to follow it but you can see what stitch they used and maybe what other people say about the heat protection bit.
