You do not need a passport to travel in the Nordic region, which is made up of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. When you cross from one Nordic country to the next, you may be asked to prove you are a Nordic citizen. We therefore recommend that you take your passport or valid driving licence with you when you travel between Nordic countries.
As long as the parents/guardians can show valid proof of identity, children travelling with them will not need their own identity documents.
Valid identity documents:
- A passport is the only Norwegian identity and travel document that is valid abroad. We recommend that you take your passport with you whenever you travel abroad, including when you travel inside the Schengen area.
- A passport or other proof of identity that has been approved as a travel document is valid proof of identity for citizens of non-Nordic countries that are members of the EU, EEA and EFTA.
- A passport and documents confirming legal residence are valid proof of identity for citizens of third countries.
