depends on what russian you ask. it is a big country that still practices expansion politics today, and most russian citizens wont call themselves russians, theyre more likely to say that theyre turkic, osseatian, mari or whatever. some close to the mongolian and chinese border might say they are an asian ethnicity, like yakutian.
so the answer is, yes and no.

My dad is from the russian Caucasus and that got counted differently in his DNA test than Russian 

So it said both "turkey & caucasus"
"russia & eastern europe" eventhough both is in Russia


I'd count the 1st as Asian, the 2nd not


I mean Russia is really diverse
I wouldn't refer to someone from Chechnya or Dagestan as white for example
