I think the problem is not that pirated games nowadays are unstable but more so games that have been released lately are just bugfests,
back in the day we A,
did not really care about it and B,
there were a lot fewer bugs and the games were actually good finished products (compared to what we have now)
if a game is running poorly it won't be the fact that it is pirated, it'll be most likely the specs that don't fit exactly
