when you first join VP, you get a mentor who you can ask questions about VP too (only nobody ever does. but I did when I joined cause I'm a nerd). You get an automated message sent to you, supposedly written by your mentor (but it's not, it's written by the owner of the site). 


When you reach a certain level, you can sign up to a be mentor yourself.
