I disagree with the ”u cant advocate self love if u get plastic surgery” thing. Changing ones looks doesnt automatically mean u dont love urself.

i don't agree with the social concept of pretty like what's considered pretty now is no offence really ugly to me, it's really unnatural and disgusting i'm like ew : ) but ofc we have individual taste, but saying ugly doesn't exist is a lie.
hm i think it's interesting what this topic has shifted to. even though i disagree w u i think the whole argument about whether beauty is objective or not is one that's been discussed through the ages and we can't really answer that.
i mean, i find myself disagreeing with people on vp if someone posts a photo like ahh the person in this photo is so pretty and i'm like okay either we have very different ideas of what pretty is or you are straight up lying.

hm if i have to be honest i can relate. i hate those posts where someone who obviously has cancer and looks like she's terminally ill has those comments like 'she's sooo beautiful omg!!!' like stop. let's stop acting that being beautiful all the time is the most important thing. sometimes we don't look our best and that's fine. they have beautiful features and everyone is beautiful in their own way, but not now. you're better off just commenting 'stay strong' or something like that. when people are fake it's so cringy.

Or ignore it, I'm not the person at all to be like "oh you are pretty" "you are so brave" "stay strong" it's  just gibberish to me like?? no need to share.
But yeah.. I'd rather be silent than say something I don't believe in.

so you're saying ugly is a personal opinion, then?

i understand the new trend of influencers showing their 'ugly side' like tummy rolls and such but it still feels inauthentic to me. like you wouldn't have done this if it wasn't a hype, you're still gonna go back to selling flat tummy tea and photoshopping your pics.

i guess it all boils down to what we define as self-love, but the point i want to make is that we can't market plastic surgery as something empowering and sell it to kids bc it's not empowering it's just a predatory industry trying to get your money.
i agree and also think that way about the make up industry

just to make it clear tho if u want plastic surgery go for it, if u wanna wear make up good for u
the consumer isnt the problem here, its the way its marketed especially at young woman and the way it impacts our feelings of self worth and the environment we live in

okay as it's obviously incredibly hard to understand what i'm saying i will rephrase it so my stance is clearer to everyone as it's boring to continue this discussion:

when i say "ugly" objectively exists, I don't mean that whatever defines ugly is objective, that's a subjective matter, but the existence of "ugly" cannot be debated, that is something objectively which we will never get past, someone will always fine someone else ugly no matter what.
furthermore, claiming objectively prettiness as i did, was about proportions and also things that are pretty much proved by maths, we do generally find it prettier if someone is proportional and when things are sensibly aligned. i.e. someone is more likely to be found ugly if there are visible differences between the lengths of arms, legs, eye size (then we are talking visible and not the normal thing everyone* has), eyes being aligned so it isn't like one in the forehead and the other one next to the mouth like some kind of picasso drawing, you also have this thing were humans are more likely to find eyes aesthetically pleasing with a specific length between them, if they are too near or too far that's a bit odd. etc. I don't want to elaborate any further but to sum it up:

ugly exists, what ugly is is subjective.

I don't really have any opinion on the matter.

All I know is that one of my old friends got a nose job which gave her a huge confidence boost and I had never seen her more happy and confident than what she was after that.

So yeah I'm a bit conflicted. I don't think we should tell our kids to get plastic surgery if they hate something about themselves. I think we should wait until they're adults. But then again why not if it could eventually help them feel better about themselves. eee

But yeah, it's just so easy to do that to yourself today.
Kinda funny how we can change our appearance completely through plastic surgery, but being tattooed on the face and hands are still illegal here in Denmark.
