Ok. I can't Polish but I have learned a little bit of Slovak at the university as well and now forgot almost all.=)
Slovak has some similarities, but not that similar.
although Slovaks who are Slovak and Rus might be able to understand Russian quite well

There's no point in shielding yourself from those informations. It is supposed to trigger so people know the horrors of war and try to prevent it. But on the other hand I agree with you that we also shouldn't lose our minds and panic. If its too much for you I suggest disconnecting from all social medias for a while and rest.
