i think its like sad that men seem to be incapable of viewing women like without doing it thru a lens oflike how bangable she is

like in a vacuum it would be fine but like within the context of our society like this blows lmao

another question in the similar vein: can men,,, imagine themselves as women? like in a fictional context

like i watch a lot of shonen, and marvel movies, and i've always liked to imagine myself as my favorite characters as a kid. like i wanted to be bucky or edward from fullmetal. but i feel that men rarely, if ever, put themselves in the position of women, even in a fictional context? i could be horribly wrong but it's interesting to think about
i think doug does i think he self inserts as wonder woman lmfao

but hes also the kinda guy who games as a catgirl like in ffxiv

he was like shook when i said i dont self insert when i read BL like what do u mean ur not inserting urself into what ur reading how ur supposed to like be the main charachter what

idk if this connects but it just makes me think of harley quinn's depiction in birds of prey vs suicide squad
like i remember seeing a lot of men shit on the former because they "removed her sexuality" and made her "unsexy" but in birds of prey harley has a lot more personality and i think she comes off as more attractive
prolly has to do with the fact that birds of prey was directed by a woman

i never understood what the 'male gaze' is exactly, and what it entails, i know it has something to do with sexism, but i feel like people online use it so much as a buzzword, the meaning has become stretched out so much that it has become meaningless.

lowkey do find it weird when women say 'i don't have any favorite female characters' but then have tons of male fav characters. like either u only watch cw dramas or it smells like internalized misogyny

its kind of a broad concept actually that can be applied to a lot so i can see how youd think its been like turned into buzz but its like a majorly important concept in uh media analysis

like as a person who is really into media like movies and shit and is smart you should really read laura mulvey's visual pleasure where the term comes from
www.asu.edu/courses/fms504/total-readings/mulvey-visualpleasure.pdf

or you could start with episode two of bergner's ways of seeing its digestable unlike academic writing lmao https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1GI8mNU5Sg

uhm i like kenneth clark's 'naked and the nude'

i probably have more resources idk those are the ones that come to mind quickly
