we had an orchid that "died", but we just kept watering it and it started growing again lol 
now its in full bloom, very pretty

there's one plant that is supposed to be watered like once a year or something insane like that
i think the best thing to do is just get a plant that is "easy to read" like scindapsus pictus because it can be watered very rarely and it's easy to see when it needs to be watered because it gets like more limp and the leaves curl, and unless you let it sit like that for too long before watering, it will do fine once you water it
