Would you recommend this show? Why/why not?
I would recommend this show to anyone who likes a bit of retro music. You don't need to be an expert on The Monkees to watch it. I knew very little about them if anything at all before I watched this.
The canned laughter is a bit insufferable at times, But I usually block it out.
It can be pretty hilarious and weird at times.
The more you watch, the more you learn about the different boys and probably grow to love them.
There's a bit of queerness (Peter, Mike) and queerplatonic (Micky,Davy) things going on. If you like digging for that kind of stuff, this show is right for you.
I think the musicians are fairly hilarious and good actors. That's pretty well done.
Not all episodes are just as funny but you can skip parts of course. You also get intros to the bands music in a fun (and admittedly, addictive) way. The guys are all pretty cute. Davy and Mike are my faves. I spoke to a friend who's twice my age and then some, and she said that Micky and Peter were her faves. You get the hang of it. I certainly weirdly like it and binge it currently. The quality of the sound and image are also surprisingly good considering the era.
