Originally, astrology is about looking at the sky and noticing patterns around events and get to the conclusion that events in the world simply goes in cycles. Also, it stems from the belief that everything material radiates energy, and the closer and heavier/larger it is, the more impact it has. So if we take planets in our solar system, inlcuding then sun, they are generally very big compared to, for example, a an apple, and they are very close to us in comparison to other material things out there in the universe, so their radiation have a large impact on us.
