I don't think they are mutually exclusive though, some middle eastern people are African, soma are Asian.

besides the location, I wonder which one is actually considered to be Asian? culturually and all besides location?

Asia is MASSIVE though, I don't think all Asian countries/cultures/whatever have anything in common other than being in Asia. The Idea that the only Asians are east and southeast Asians is pretty stupid.

Western Asia contains Arabs, Persians, Turkish, Kurds, And Jewish people. (with more in there) 
The Arab States of the Persian Gulf considers Asian people to be from  South Asian and of Southeast Asian descent, I'm not saying that it's 100% correct, though I do think like that, but it's interesting to talk about it, maybe the correct term would be West Asians as they located in West Asia?

Although many countries use the term 'Asian' referring to people living on that continent, in reality, Asian usually refers to peoples of East, Southeast, and South Asia.
Inhabitants of Southwest Asia, such as Arabs and Iranians, are more commonly designated Middle Easterners. 

But that of course depends on based on what you say that a person is, by location, or other factors.
